Minetest steam games minecraft9/20/2023 I know it's not really much construction wise, but I just LOVED be way up in the sky. These two posts on the MineTest forum has some pictures: Over 500 nodes high, with little floating island biomes all the way up and with a sky city at the top. It is incredible when you are already 3,000 nodes deep and run into a cavern that might be hundreds of nodes high, with lakes of lava, pools of dark water, and areas of deep inky blackness.ĪND, the heights! Oh my! I built a treehouse in the old Xanadu server. You aren't REALLY mining until you've passed over 1000 nodes deep. But in a Minetest world, 60 nodes down is barely scratching the surface. Minecraft mines go a measly 60 nodes deep. ![]() At least, Horizontally.Ī Minetest world is a cube 65,536 blocks on a side. He loves the fact that he can explore forever. You can travel on the ground for millions of blocks. Minecraft has a world that is almost infinitely broad. Repeating the previous comment on 65536:My son and I argue about this all the time. Anyway, I play far more Minetest than Minecraft, these days. There's probably other things that I'm missing, but those are the main reasons I've more-or-less switched from Minecraft to Minetest. I think people underestimate what a great feature this is and how much freedom and flexibility it provides. Each server maintains its own list of users/passwords, meaning that, if it's your server, you can pick any name you want, regardless of whether or not someone else uses that same name on a different server. Again, because it's free and open, there's no governing body managing logins, etc.The mobile version is cross-compatible with the PC version. Also, Android and PC players can play on the same world easily. Because mods are all handled server-side, the game tends to be snappier than Minecraft and work better on old hardware. ![]()
